Missouri Insurance Quotes

Every motor vehicle owner MUST present a current insurance identification card, or copy thereof, or other proof of financial responsibility and sign an affidavit certifying that the owner or the authorized agent has and will maintain financial responsibility during the registration period.

NOTE: The owner or authorized agent MUST sign the self-certification of financial responsibility on the application to satisfy the requirement for an affidavit, unless the application is for a trailer.

Proof of financial responsibility may be any one of the following:

1. A current insurance identification card (original or copy) containing the following information.
   • The name and address of the insurer;
   • The name of the insured;
   • The policy number;
   • The effective dates of the policy, including month, day and year;
   • A description of the insured motor vehicle including year and make or the word "fleet" if the insurance policy covers five or more motor vehicles;
2. A motor vehicle liability insurance policy or insurance binder (a temporary policy). A paid insurance receipt indicating policy information (must include the insured's name, vehicle description and effective dates) is also acceptable and may be submitted for a newly purchased vehicle or a new insurance carrier;
3. A Self-Insured Identification Card issued by the Driver and Vehicle Services Bureau;
4. A Financial Responsibility Identification Card including the insured's name and vehicle description (or fleet). The card is issued by the Driver and Vehicle Services Bureau upon receipt of one of the following:
   • A surety bond;
   • A real estate bond; or
   • A certificate of deposit of money or securities filed with the Missouri Department of Revenue

Exemptions from Providing Proof of Financial Responsibility

• If the owner of a motor vehicle submits an application for title only, proof of financial responsibility is not required.
  
• Registrations held by certain persons or entities are not required to provide proof of financial responsibility. These include:
  
  • Motor vehicles owned by the United States, the state of Missouri and any political subdivision or municipality; and
  • Common or contract carriers (motor carriers) whose operations are subject to jurisdiction of and are regulated by the Missouri Department of

Transportation, Motor Carrier Services, who apply for a registration or renewal of registration at a contract office. In lieu of this proof, the motor carrier must complete a Motor Carrier's Insurance Self Certification (DOR-4715). This form is not available online however you may use our online form order.
